In President Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation speech in February 2020, he announced that government is planning to designate 1000 locally produced products that must be procured from Small Medium and Micro Enterprises, to create a larger market for small businesses. This is good news for all smaller businesses, as government contracts allow SMME’s to take a further step towards sustainability.
Tendering for government contracts can prove to be quite onerous. The processes are highly regulated and the legislative framework in which government procurement operates is complex. This, however, should not stand in the way of businesses to use the opportunity to successfully bid for government contracts.
